Riprap is one of the most durable and cost-effective shoreline protection methods available — and Seawall Repairs by Solid Foundations installs riprap systems engineered to Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina coastal standards. Properly designed riprap absorbs wave energy, prevents bank erosion, and provides a natural-looking alternative to hard seawalls for properties where a vertical wall isn't required or permitted.
Riprap is angular rock or crushed stone placed along a shoreline, streambank, or at the base of a structure to protect against erosion from wave action, current, and storm surge. A properly installed riprap system includes a filter layer (geotextile fabric or graded gravel) that prevents fine soil from washing through the stone, an appropriately sized armor stone layer, and a toe key — a buried portion of stone that anchors the toe of the slope and prevents undermining. Riprap size is engineered based on wave height, fetch, and shoreline slope.

We obtain all required DEP, Army Corps, and county permits before installation. Many riprap projects in Florida require DEP authorization; we manage the permitting process.
The existing bank is graded to the design slope, excess vegetation is removed, and unstable soil is stabilized to create a consistent bearing surface.
Marine-grade geotextile filter fabric is placed over the prepared slope, overlapping all seams by a minimum of 2 feet and securing the edges at the toe and crest.
Angular stone is placed in a trench at the toe of the slope, burying the base of the riprap below scour depth to anchor the system and prevent undermining.
Armor stone of the engineered gradation is placed over the filter fabric from toe to crest, interlocked to achieve maximum stability. Additional gravel filter layer may be placed between fabric and armor where required.
Riprap installation typically costs $125–$350 per linear foot depending on stone size, system depth, site accessibility, and filter fabric requirements. A standard 75-foot residential riprap installation runs $10,000–$25,000 fully installed and permitted.
