Bulkhead replacement involves demolishing and removing the failed existing structure, preparing the site, and constructing a new bulkhead system designed and permitted to current coastal construction codes. Modern replacement bulkheads typically use vinyl sheet pile (40–50 year service life), precast concrete panels, or treated timber for traditional aesthetics. The replacement includes all components: the panel system, horizontal walers, anchor system (helical tiebacks or deadman anchors), and concrete or aluminum cap rail.
