Privately owned Punta Gorda bulkheads that are broken through, badly leaning, or failing in many places should be replaced, usually with vinyl or composite sheet pile; in PGI and BSI, the City replaces canal seawalls itself.

Seawall Repairs by Solid Foundations provides bulkhead replacement in Punta Gorda, FL for owners of private seawalls, associations, and commercial waterfront sites. The City owns and maintains those walls, and Solid Foundations works with the City of Punta Gorda. Its Canal Maintenance Division assesses the district walls every year, makes its own seawall panels, and schedules replacements. If your lot is on the list, the City and its contractors send advance notice (City of Punta Gorda canals).
What the City doesn't do is restore your private improvements. Owners must clear the work zone, including docks, lifts, walkways, irrigation, and fencing, and afterward the district provides sod only. Restoring the dock and lift is on you. That's work we can plan and price ahead of time through marine construction in Punta Gorda.

If only the joints and cap are failing, start with bulkhead repair in Punta Gorda.
| Material | Typical service life* | Strengths | Tradeoffs |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vinyl sheet pile | 40โ50+ yrs | Won't rust or rot; cost-effective | Needs a strong cap and anchor system |
| Composite (FRP) sheet pile | 50+ yrs | Stiff, long-lived | Higher material cost |
| Precast concrete panel | 30โ50 yrs | Matches the style used on the district canals | Joint seals and fabric age |
| Steel sheet pile | 25โ40 yrs in salt water | High loads, commercial frontage | Corrosion protection required |
| Timber | 15โ25 yrs | Low first cost | Short life in salt water |
*Service life varies with exposure, installation, and maintenance.
For most private residential walls, we recommend vinyl or composite sheet pile with a concrete cap. On open harbor or river frontage, heavier sections or added toe rock may be warranted.
For addresses in unincorporated Charlotte County, the residential seawall permit calls for signed and sealed drawings, a site plan, a survey, a recorded Notice of Commencement, and possibly FDEP and Army Corps approval (Charlotte County). Inside Punta Gorda city limits, the City's code requires a building permit for any seawall or bulkhead.
Tip: Book in winter or early spring. After three big storms since 2004, contractors and reviewers here get busy fast once hurricane season starts.
A full replacement generally costs $250โ$600 per linear foot. For a 75-foot vinyl sheet pile wall at a Punta Gorda home, figure $20,000โ$45,000. Height, material, access, and dock work change the total. Our Florida seawall cost guide has more detail.
We also replace bulkheads in Cape Coral and Sarasota. Everything local is on the Punta Gorda seawall repair page.
You do. The district provides replacement sod only, and owners are responsible for restoring private docks, lifts, walkways, and landscaping. We can quote removal and reinstallation in advance.
Those walls are City-owned and replaced through the canal district program, so report problems to the City. Solid Foundations works with the City of Punta Gorda, and we can prepare your dock and lift for the City's work. For a privately owned wall outside the districts, you can hire us directly.
Vinyl or composite sheet pile with a concrete cap is our usual recommendation. Exposure and wall height can push the design toward heavier sections.
Plan on a few months from first call to finished wall, mostly for engineering and permits. The build itself usually takes weeks.
