This is where Sarasota is different from most of Florida. Inside City of Sarasota limits, the top of a seawall or bulkhead can't exceed 7.27 feet NAVD88, and the city engineer can set a lower limit if a taller wall would push water onto the lots next door. Your plans must be professionally certified to show no harm to neighbors (City of Sarasota Sec. VII-1304). That rule was updated in 2025 to allow higher walls in response to sea level rise.
Gulf-front and pass-front lots inside the city are a separate case: new armoring there needs a special permit from the City Commission after a public hearing.
