Helical piers provide deep foundation support for waterfront structures — docks, boat lifts, seawall anchors, and structures on waterfront lots where shallow soil conditions make conventional foundations impractical. Seawall Repairs by Solid Foundations installs helical piers engineered for marine environments, with all hardware specified for long-term saltwater exposure.
A helical pier is a high-strength steel pipe with helical bearing plates that is hydraulically screwed into the earth to a calculated depth and installation torque, reaching stable bearing soil or rock below the soft, unstable soils near the water's edge. Once installed, helical piers provide deep, reliable foundation support for any structure built above them — including boat docks, boathouses, waterfront decks, seawall anchor points, and failed-footing remediation.
We review available soil data and perform a site assessment to determine the depth at which stable bearing soil exists and calculate the required helical plate size and installation torque.
A licensed engineer prepares the helical pier design including shaft diameter, helix configuration, and minimum installation torque requirements.
Our hydraulic torque head equipment is set up — either barge-mounted for over-water work, or on a compact track machine for tight land-side access.
Each pier is advanced to the design depth and minimum torque, confirming bearing capacity. Piers are installed plumb or at design batter angles.
Structural steel brackets are welded or bolted to the pier shaft at the design elevation to receive the structure's load.
Helical pier installation costs $700–$2,000 per pier depending on shaft diameter, required depth, and mobilization. Most dock foundation projects require 4–12 piers, for a total cost of $4,000–$20,000.
