A Key West seawall that is tilting but not broken can often be held in place with new anchors and a waler beam, at a fraction of the cost of a new wall.

Reinforcement fits walls that are moving but intact. Look for:
If panels are shattered, anchors won't save them. See bulkhead replacement in Key West.

Hurricane Irma came ashore near Cudjoe Key on September 10, 2017 as a Category 4. The Hurricane Center measured 5 to 8 feet of water above ground from Cudjoe Key east to Big Pine and Bahia Honda. The Key West gauge peaked lower, about 2.7 feet above mean higher high water (NHC). Even that much water, plus waves and debris, loads a wall hard. Walls that didn't fail outright can loosen and creep outward afterward.
Many older walls were held back by steel rods tied to buried anchors. In warm salt water, those rods corrode until they stop doing their job.
Heavy summer rain saturates the fill behind the wall. If weep holes are clogged, that weight pushes on the panels with nowhere to go.
Steel anchors with helical plates are installed at an angle through the wall into the ground behind it and locked to the wall face. See helical tiebacks.
Key West sits on limestone. Where rock sits close to the surface, a screw anchor can hit refusal before it reaches its target. We check what's behind your wall before picking anchors, and adjust the angle, length or method to suit.
On lots with room behind the wall, a buried concrete block tied to the wall with rods is a proven option.
A continuous beam along the wall face spreads anchor loads so no single panel carries too much.
We often pair anchors with polyurethane injection to firm up the fill and relief drains to cut water pressure.

Reinforcing a wall doesn't change its height. If your cap is already low for today's tides, the City of Key West's 2024 stormwater plan is a good reason to think about height now. It calls for raising seawalls along parts of Riviera Canal. Some owners reinforce today and plan a cap raise or replacement later. We'll lay out both paths. If the ground near your wall is sinking, see marine foundation repair in Key West.
We also reinforce seawalls in Miami and Marco Island. See all our seawall work in Key West.
If the panels are intact, usually yes. Anchors stop further movement, and some walls can be partly drawn back. Waiting narrows your options.
It can. That's why we check the ground first. Where rock is shallow, we change the anchor layout or use another method.
Structural work over $1,000 needs a City of Key West building permit. Monroe County handles addresses outside city limits. We prepare the application.
Properly engineered anchors are a permanent upgrade. How long the whole wall lasts still depends on the panels, and we'll tell you straight.
