Santa Rosa Beach is an unincorporated community in Walton County that stretches from Choctawhatchee Bay down to the Gulf. It has two kinds of shoreline that follow very different rules. On the bay side, bayous like Hogtown Bayou wind in from Choctawhatchee Bay, and NOAA's Hogtown Bayou station records an average daily tide range of only about 0.6 feet. On the Gulf side, the 30A area holds Walton County's rare coastal dune lakes, where hard shoreline structures aren't allowed. Knowing which side your property is on tells you what's possible.
