Marco Island writes its own dock rules (Marco Island Code §54-111). Protrusion is measured from the face of the seawall and includes the boat, motors, and pulpit.

Going beyond these limits requires a boat dock extension, heard by the Planning Board with mailed notice to owners within 300 feet. The board considers water depth, using 4 feet at mean low water as a general guide, along with navigation and neighbors' views.
After construction, the city issues a certificate of completion only after a certified final survey, which must happen within 90 days of the certificate of use.
