St. Augustine's Matanzas Bay waterfront is one of the most demanding seawall environments in northeast Florida. The bay's 4.5-foot mean tidal range — among the highest along Florida's Atlantic coast — generates powerful bi-directional tidal flows that stress panel joints and scour material from behind aging walls with every tidal cycle. The Bridge of Lions navigation channel creates a hydraulic constriction that accelerates flow along the downtown bayfront seawall on Avenida Menendez, making those panels especially vulnerable to toe scour. Inland, the San Sebastian River's tidal exchange through the historic district's west side creates a separate erosion environment for residential bulkheads in the San Sebastian Harbour and Marina Del Palmas areas. Salt Run — the tidal lagoon on the east side of Anastasia Island — is a protected but high-tidal-range environment where Davis Shores and St. Augustine Beach residential seawalls face persistent bi-tidal loading. St. Augustine is also a documented high-tide flooding hot spot: NOAA tidal gauge data records 10–15 minor flooding events per year at the bayfront, and that frequency is accelerating. Many bayfront and Historic District seawalls date to the early 20th century — some to the Flagler-era development of the 1880s–1910s — and have far exceeded their designed service life. St. Johns County building permits and St. Johns River Water Management District (SJRWMD) review required for structural work; Army Corps of Engineers Section 10 authorization required for work in the Matanzas River/Intracoastal Waterway corridor.

"Our seawall on the Matanzas channel side had been leaning slightly for years and I kept putting off the inspection. Solid Foundations found voids behind three panels and a cracked cap section. They did polyurethane injection and repaired the cap in two days — no excavation, no mess. The wall is plumb again and I wish I hadn't waited so long."
