What Permits Apply in Apalachicola?

City review. The City of Apalachicola processes permits through its own Building Department. For exterior changes in the Historic District, and for accessory structures and new development, owners must consult the Planning Department before permits can be issued.

State review. Florida Statute 403.813(1)(e) exempts restoring a seawall at its old location, upland, or within 18 inches waterward from a separate FDEP permit. But FDEP's shoreline guidance says projects in an aquatic preserve need written authorization to use state-owned submerged lands even when they meet the exemption. With most of the estuary inside the Apalachicola Bay Aquatic Preserve, plan for that step.
